Alleged hit-and-run driver may not face felony

Another example of how money and good lawyers can fix anything! WTF!

EAGLE, Colorado — A financial manager for wealthy clients will not face felony charges for a hit-and-run because it could jeopardize his job, prosecutors said Thursday.

Martin Joel Erzinger, 52, faces two misdemeanor traffic charges stemming from a July 3 incident when he allegedly hit bicyclist Dr. Steven Milo from behind then sped away, according to court documents.

Milo and his attorney, Harold Haddon, are livid about the prosecution's decision to drop the felony charge. They filed their objection Wednesday afternoon, the day after prosecutors notified Haddon's office by fax of their decision.

Haddon and Milo say this is a victim's rights case, that Erzinger's alleged actions constituted a felony, and that one day is not enough notice.

“The proposed disposition is not appropriate given the shocking nature of of the defendant's conduct and the debilitating injuries which Dr. Milo has suffered,” Haddon wrote.

As for the one-day notice, Haddon wrote, “One business day is not sufficient notice to allow him to meaningfully participate in this criminal action.”

Milo, 34, is a physician living in New York City with his wife and two children, where he is still recovering from his injuries, court records show.

Milo suffered spinal cord injuries, bleeding from his brain and damage to his knee and scapula, according to court documents. Over the past six weeks he has suffered “disabling” spinal headaches and faces multiple surgeries for a herniated disc and plastic surgery to fix the scars he suffered in the accident.

“He will have lifetime pain,” Haddon wrote. “His ability to deal with the physical challenges of his profession — liver transplant surgery — has been seriously jeopardized.”

FDR (Father's Day Ride) 2010 - Leadville Loop

What a nice tradition for Father's Day in the Vail Valley.  This year we had around 35 riders that started the ride at 7:30 am from Minturn Forest Service.  Pictured above is the posse on top of Freemont Pass where we had some awesome support provided by Mariella, Heidi, Michelle, Katie and all the kiddos!  Great day, great ride and great cycling community we have in the valley!

Pedal Power celebrates its 30th anniversary | VailDaily.com

Vail Daily Atricle - Monday. June 14, 2010:

EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado — Long before spandex-clad cyclists were a common sight in Vail, Bruce Kelly took up the sport.

It was the '70s. Kelly rarely saw other cyclists when he pedaled along the streets here. (Mountain bikes would not become the rage until the '80s).

One day, Kelly took his bike into a shop for repairs. He was surprised by how much it cost.

“I thought: Well, I'm going to get a book and try to do some of this stuff myself,” Kelly said.

He invested in some wrenches and a bike stand and took to fixing his bike on the porch of his rented Vail duplex. He left Vail for a while but kept riding his bike. He rode to and from classes at University of Colorado at Boulder, where he studied commercial recreation from 1977 to 1979.

When he returned to Vail, Kelly's vision for opening a bike shop took shape......follow link for full article

Dear Floyd

Dear Floyd
I new you when you raced 24 hours of Moab in a t-shirt, I new you when you and I both race for TWP, I new you when you went roady with Mercury, I went to France and watched you lead Lance to his 5th tour victory, in 2006 I felt sick to my stomach after your collapse in stage 16 and then almost burned down the town after your comeback in stage 17. When you said you weren’t a cheater I believed you and defended you even through the ridicule of my peers. I wrote you a letter when you where with Ouch telling you to hang tough, that someday the truth would be known. Why now when the only reason for the “truth” is sorted profit and the spot light. I wished I’d never known you.
Sincerely
John Cummins

Gruber Assist - new sponsor?

Gruber Assist, according to Cycling News, the motor is inserted down the seat tube of pro tour riders and interacts with a standard bottom bracket axel via a bevel gear unit. It is practically invisible but weighs a ton, although the model displayed on its website has an external on/off switch plus a battery pack that is mounted in a saddle bag. The total weight of all of the components is 1900 grams, and can provide 100 watts of power.

If we all start showing up to the start line with heavy bikes and/or large saddle bags then we will be packing a motor!

From the actual website - GRUBER Assist- a high-quality tuning product for your bicycle:

GRUBER Assist is an ultra-light drive for mountain bikes, trekking cycles and tour cycles, suitable for later installation. The skilfully conceived Gruber motor is invisibly built into the bicycle (seat tube with an inner diameter of 31.6mm required) and scores especially highly on account of its light weight (900 g).

A touch of the Turbo button on the handlebar – and the burning sensation in your thighs disappears – the healthy perspiration, however, remains. The auxiliary drive, with its 200 watt of additional power, promises a performance increase of up to 100% – for min. 45 minutes at full load. When the drive is switched off, you continue cycling as normal. GRUBER Assist guarantees pleasurable cycling without a red face!

Product attributes

• The electric motor is very light
• The propelling assistance is invisible
• Cycling becomes fitness cycling and is thereby healthier
• Thanks to its retrofit kit, it is almost irrelevant what brand of bike you have
• The pedal assistance brings speed on flat and power going uphill

The GRUBER Assist doesn’t have a blocking at 25 km/h and isn’t allowed for the public traffic. If you want this blocking, we certainly can install it for you.

Collection of unusual bicycles....

Futuristic:

Locust Bike that can fold up like a accordion

"Urban Bicycle" designed by Victor M. Aleman, which can fit into a box after being completely disassembled or reassembled in record time.

BMW Bike

Furious Sports Bicycle by Nenad Kostadinov
Cool design but this would be very uncomfortable to ride 100 miles!

Modified:

World's Tallest Bike - The current world record holder, at 18 feet 2.5 inches, as judged by the Guinness Book of World Records, is Terry Goertzen, a pastor at the Jubilee Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. He rode his skyscraper for 300 meters to earn his spot in the annals of history.

How would you dismount this bike - Tour De France - Devil (El Diablo)!

The owner of this bike is Didi Senft - a cycle racing fan from Germany, and builder of oversize cycles. Born in 1952, Didi has long been a fan of the Tour de France. He noticed that the German television commentators would call the final kilometer of each stage 'The Red Devil's Lap': Since 1993, Didi has dressed in a red devil costume and followed the Tour de France around its entire course, hauling his huge bike around on a trailer. He says that he would prefer to be at the beginning of The Red Devil's Lap, 1km from the finish, but the race authorities and French police won't allow him and his bicycle that close because of the crowds, so he usually sets up at the flag which marks 20km to the finish, and often manages to get as close as 5km from the end on the mountain stages in the Pyrenees and Alps.

Art Bike - 6 extra spare wheels along for the ride....

“Forkless – Cruiser” by Olli Erkkila. This was designed for Olli's college graduation project at the Institute of Design in Lahti, Finland.

Bikes that have another function:

Lawn Mowers

Shopping Carts

Campers

Boombox Bike

Do these bikes actually work?:

Max Knights "Walking Bike"

Drift Wood Bike

Bike made for 7

Shaft Drive Bike?

WTF:

Seesaw Bike? (Tricycle)

This unique bike comes with three wheels too, it is indeed an unusual bike. Since the three wheels are not in the same horizontal surface, the two face-to-face drivers have to ride it like playing a seesaw.

Sideways Bike

4 Layer Bike

Chick Bike

Wooden Bikes:

Road Ride from De Beque, CO to Powderhorn Ski Area

This ride was recommended to me a few years ago by the owner of Venture Sports - Mike Brumbaugh. It is a great spring time ride and the roads are in great shape with new asphalt on 45.5 road. It is located in Mesa County, westbound Interstate 70, Exit 62, De Beque. Just of the exit ramp by the gas station is a Park –n– Ride. Jump on Route 45.5 (De Beque Cutoff Road) and cross over I-70 heading south to follow the Sand Wash past Black Mountain. The county route ends at Colorado 65 just northwest of the intersection with Colorado 330 in the town of Mesa. Turn left on 65-N and go 9.4 miles then right on E25/200 Road that leads you to the base of the Ski area at 8,200 feet. Total ride is around 40 miles with over 3,800 feet of climbing.

Colorado National Monument Road Ride

Reminder of what a great Spring Time ride this is when the moutain bike trails are still covered with snow!

Description:
The Colorado National Monument ride is a 40 mile ride through the Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction and Fruita. The ride features spectacular panaromic views of the canyon and the red rock sculptures as you wind along Rim Rock Road.

It does cost $4 dollars for bicycles so be sure to bring some cash with you and they now require all bikes to have a front and rear light to use when you go through the three tunnels!

Our Route:

We started from the hotel in Fruita, La Quinta,on HGWY 340 - Broadway, right on South Broadway, right on South Camp Road and warmed up riding to the East entrance of the Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction ride West on Rim Rock Drive climbing up and then descending down to the West entrance then back to the hotel. The total distance is 38 miles from the hotel with 2,800 feet of elevations gain.

Bike-Kegs - Hopworksfiets party bike

The Hopworksfiets party bike was built in, where else, bike- and beer-mad Portland, Oregon, by the bike builders Metrofiets. All you really need to know in order to fall in love with this bike is that it carries not one, but two beer kegs along with a pair of taps to serve the suds.

The mobile bar, a custom build for Portland-based Hopworks Urban Brewery, is a long-wheelbase cargo bike with the load bed up front, which we guess means that pedestrians can’t sneak a quick pint when you’re stopped at the lights. There’s a “sound pannier” at the back, containing an amp and a speaker, and the rear rack is just the right size to carry a stack of pizza boxes.

Just make sure that you nominate a designated rider. When fully loaded, this thing weighs close to 400 pounds, and of course has just two wheels. In other words, it’s not the kind of vehicle you want to be driving while under the influence.

Colorado snowshoe championships appeal to elite racers - The Denver Post

Colorado snowshoe championships appeal to elite racers - The Denver Post

TENNESSEE PASS — Bruce Kelly isn't into popularity contests. He's into snowshoe contests.

"These people are going to come in here today, and they're going to hate me," said Kelly, organizer of the 2010 Colorado State Snowshoe Championships held Saturday at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center. "But we're trying to give people something they may not do on snowshoes on their own. Even the best snowshoers out there won't go out and do what I just marked as a course out there. The best guys, the fastest snowshoers — they'll never do that on their own.".....follow link for complete article!
